Roomshare/Cohabitation Dissolution: Moving Cost Split

Parting ways happens. Dissolving a living arrangement.
Emotions run high, but money talk must be dry and precise.
How to leave on good terms.

1. Cleaning & Repair Fees

Usually deducted from the deposit, but can exceed it.

Basically split 50/50. But if one caused damage (wall holes, smoking), they pay more.

Refund returned deposits based on initial contribution ratio.

2. Furniture Disposal & Ownership

"Who keeps the fridge we bought together?"
Ideally, the keeper pays the other "buyout value", but estimating is hard.

"Keeper pays shipping"
"If disposing, split disposal fees"
Agree on rules. Disposal costs can be high.

3. Timing of Settlement

Bills often come 1-2 months later.
It's annoying to contact ex-partners later. Update addresses.

If possible, estimate at move-out and settle "No claims after this" for mental peace.
